Our team is checking images and video circulated this morning that show the aftermath of a alleged car bomb explosion that Russian officials say killed a high-ranking military officer in Moscow.
Officials in Russia confirmed that Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov was inside the car that exploded and that he succumbed of his injuries. A probe is under way.
Our starting point to verify the location from which the pictures were from was based on posts indicating the blast happened on Yasenevaya Ulitsa in the southern district of the capital city of Russia.
We used street-view imagery on Google Maps and the local mapping service Yandex Maps to match the distinctive yellow colour of a nearby apartment building captured in the video.
Identifying additional structures, streetlights and the road configuration confirmed where the pictures were taken.
We also checked that the video clips were recent and that the images had not undergone manipulated.
