The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
