The President Invites Relatives of Attacked Military Members to White House
Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Tragic Shooting
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The president said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump addressed reporters. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Public Reaction
Attendees assembled over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support public safety in the capital.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that educators desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with distinction, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
