The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of the second series, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
