Cameron Norrie secured the most notable win of his career by coming back from a set down to defeat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had previously overcome Alcaraz on two occasions, this triumph signifies Norrie's maiden success over a reigning world No 1.

"Massive. Incredibly significant for me," commented Norrie, who joins as the newest UK male player in history to defeat a global number one. "Bouncing back from injury last year, I lost in the first round of qualies here. I just tried to enjoy my performance in the closing months of the year. To secure a win like this, it's the biggest success of my professional life, my first win over the global number one and probably the most confident athlete in the tennis scene right now."

Norrie, positioned 31st globally, also ended Alcaraz's dominant streak of nine finals in a row and 17 successive Masters 1000 successes, which marked the best series of results in the young champion's young professional path.

The top seed appeared to be advancing smoothly towards victory in the beginning as he cruised in the initial stanza. Nevertheless, the British contender steadily fought his way into contention by delivering with improved accuracy and pulling the Spanish opponent into prolonged, grueling points. His persistent consistency and dependability slowly left its mark.

Through most of the match, the world number one performed well on serve but he had difficulty to get his timing right with his rally strokes.
